CASE STUDY

CONTEXT:  The company specializes in healthcare for people with disabilities and prides itself on inclusive hiring practices to employ people of diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities. This population has seen a marked increase over the last year, especially those with hearing loss.

CHALLENGES:  The rising number of employees with disabilities has highlighted the lack of adequate training beyond mandatory online compliance training modules. The company seeks to develop a targeted training program for leadership to equip them with essential knowledge, skills, and empathy to effectively support employees who are d/Deaf or hard-of-hearing.

SOLUTIONS:  This in-person instructor-led training focuses on manager development, integrating interactive role-play, video discussions, and personal reflections. In this one-day, two-part program, participants practice inclusive leadership strategies, deepen their understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with hearing loss, enhance their existing communication skills in both individual and group contexts, and learn to utilize or request necessary accommodations effectively.

RESULTS:  The intended outcome of the training program is for managers to foster open communication and promote inclusive practices within their teams, leading to improved team dynamics, increased morale, and heightened productivity.
